High performance- why, what and how
I founded a podcast last year entitled ‘Sleep Eat Perform Repeat’ with the appetite to answer the questions about what really makes high performing individuals in sport and business tick, and ultimately succeed.
I have learned so much through this period having interviewed a diverse and wide ranging group of individuals from the worlds of the military, arts, corporate and professional sports. These people all have many characteristics in common- words such as resilience, grit, hunger, passion, curiosity and energy are some that come to mind but I could write a 1000 others. Themes that echo throughout are leadership, mindset, culture, ambition and determination to name but a few.
High performance is so important for us to maximise and optimise our time on this planet. By living in a high performance space we don’t let distraction and procrastination get in the way of fulfillment, happiness and wellbeing. We can live a live of abundance, thrive in a world geared and focused towards self-actualisation for us and our close others.
There are many hacks and triggers to get into this headspace. As an example, we talk about habit building, and stacking these behavioural bricks on top of one another over time. This then helps us to build better habits for high performance, but also to understand if we are not performing what we can do to break the unhealthy routine to get back to that positive, energetic and agile space.
Keystone habits are essential to breathe high performance. The big rocks of sleep, healthy nutrition, active recovery, proper breathing patterns, etc. are elementary foundations to install to give you a chance to adopt micro habits. When we stack these micro-interventions together they feed into performance, success and an all-conquering mindset.
This last point is important. Everyone faces disappointment or problems, be that mental, physical and/or emotional. How we combat these manifestations and get over the hurdle is of paramount importance. Not every day starts perfect with that ideal morning routine. However, knowing what we can do to channel positivity to our head and heart to get to that healthy and mindfully present headspace is a practice worth researching and educating oneself on. I am still working on this each day.
There are so many subtleties to living a life of abundance, clarity and high performance. Effort and attitude must be there. Presentness and mindfulness have to be there. Hunger for learning and development are a given. Bring all these ingredients together and you will no longer be hungry to perform. You will allow yourself to do it. Go after it, open your heart and head, and level up.
Sleep. Eat. Perform. Repeat.
