How have we adapted to life during lockdown? What secrets can we learn from the world of sport as we emerge from our global time-out as we try to reboot and recover.

Speaking at a recent online event, David along with Mark Langtry, Head of Science & Sport at Explorium Ireland discussed wellbeing, adaptation and performance. With help from special guests from the world of sports, science and arts they shared insights to help us reboot and recover after lockdown and tips for emerging from a global time-out.

Keynote Summary.

 

Build Better Habits

Hear about the leaders of habit building and knowledge such as Angela Duckworth, Charles Duhigg, BJ Fogg and James Clear. Learn about behaviour change and how to turn outcome-based habits into identity-based habits. It’s about compound interest, getting 1% more each day, embedding routines and doing what is important for you to become the person you want to be.

Life lessons from Sport for Business

Learn about the main themes distilled from the podcast “Sleep Eat Perform Repeat” and how they can be adapted to the corporate and business world. Finding Flow for Peak Performance

Flow follows focus. Learn about what flow is, and how it leads to peak performance and increased productivity whilst also decreasing procrastination and distraction. Injury Prevention Strategies

Learn about the key elements of injury prevention be that strength and conditioning principles of muscle health along with load management guidelines. Recovery models and sleep will also be referred to for not only preventing injuries and pain, but also improving your day to day performance potentially.

 

Injury Management Techniques

Combining career experience and scientific research from physiotherapy and sports medicine this talk details the methods and techniques used by high performing individuals to optimally recover from injury and manage on-going injuries. Frameworks and concepts to manage acute and sub-acute injuries plus load management principles for chronic injuries will be key learning points.

Mobility For The Workplace

A vital aspect of health is our ability to utilise our bodies effectively in daily tasks and hobbies. Joint mobility, muscle flexibility and overall pliability is integral to physical wellbeing. This talk will be very practical and engaging with micro-interventions performed to help improve your physical capabilities and quality of life. Screening for mobility deficiencies, targeted postures and corrective exercises will be discussed, including evidence from the Titleist Performance Institute and “The Ready State” mobility specialisation that David has completed.

Exercise Is Medicine

The World Health Organisation declare “Exercise is Medicine”. Learn about the importance of incorporating exercise into your routine and making it a habit of your day. This talk will help you understand the many benefits of exercising both from a physical and mental perspective.

 

A Rehabilitation & Return to Play Pathway

This talk will centre on the key principles of rehabilitation and how to be effective during a programme focused on returning to play and competition. Each part of the rehabilitation model will be elaborated upon and built upon to culminate in benchmarks for return to play criteria specific to the sport.
